Parco della Resistenza
A walk in the direction of Alba, at the roundabout, leads to the Pian della Croce.
The name comes from the plateau of the hill on which the votive pillar dedicated to Jesus on the Cross was erected. A chapel consecrated to St Bernard once stood nearby. Taking the steps or the cycle path, from Pian della Croce you reach the Colle della Resistenza.
"Qui vivono per sempre gli occhi che furono chiusi alla luce perché tutti li avessero aperti per sempre alla luce"
"Here live forever the eyes that were closed to the light so that all might open them forever to the light"
is the poem that welcomes visitors to the park, written specifically by the poet Ungaretti for this hill.
Inaugurated in 1968 by representatives of the partisan formations, dedicated to freedom and to those who fought for it, it is immersed in a forest that recreates that which once covered the Langa. The amphitheatre, conceived as a gathering place, was designed by the Turinese architect Amodei, while the sculptor Santoro designed the gate and the central structure.
